Tim and Andrew,
Here is the proposed vision for our 17 practices - open to course corrections, requests for details, anything really...let me know.
Ultimately, encourage the girls to increase self-awareness of individual strengths and weaknesses. Give them tools to help them address those within a growth mindset.
Positive touches and communication
Attitude and effort
I am a difference maker
Must limit confusion & noise - we need to have a shared language and value system.
Practice Focuses:
Injury Prevention
Dynamic and Static Stretch each practice (Do we have a parent volunteer who could run this peice for us? A female that could lead the girls in stretching?)
Agility, strength and cardio training each practice
Team needs to learn to identify individual opponents weakness and change their individual and team shape to give our team an advantage
Learn to flow from 5 out to 4 - 1 to 3-2 and back
Identify individual and team mismatches and tendencies - seek out the patterns and learn to create advantages
Use games
Not be fearful of running out of time - we slow things WAAAAY down as needed
Would like to incorporate video, whiteboard, and classroom as needed
Increase confidence & Individual Skills
Provide autonomy for athletes to train on an area they see a need for. (we need to be prepared with drills and games)
We also provide structure on skills we see their need for
Stack fundamentals as a way to train individual skills
Encourage athletic creative moves, one-handed passes, underhand rainbow pass over tall opponent, tweens, "wrong" hand layups, etc...
Use self competitions to show progress in a skill
Keep them coming back
Practices are focused and fun
Coaching is encouraging and honest
We carve time for on-going Tournaments, 3v3, 2v2, etc...
Give unstructured time
