Purpose
Championships are not won on the night of the big event, but years before by athletes who commit themselves daily to championship principles. - Coach Devenzio
HUSTLE provides a space for our girls to train to that level of expectation, and it is all about US working together toward our championship mindset!
Start with a saying "ETDMTYS" (pronounced: Edty-mys)
E.xpect T.o D.o M.ore T.han Y.our S.hare
As parents we are the leaders for our kids & as leaders, we must ETDYMYS. This is clearly known to all of us. If we have a group of kids and parents agreeing on ETDMTYS as a standard, non-negotionable tenent to be on the team, we will have a group of individuals ready to lead and be good teammates.
2) Brief introduction - Our brand of basketball is Team First.
Positive touches and energy - practice, games, on the bench, on the court...body language - thank the passer mindset...
We expect mistakes and are ok with mistakes - there is no pressure in making a mistake
We own the mistakes, we learn from them, we rely on our teammate to encourage us
We do not feel sorry for ourselves & we do not let our teammates feel sorry for themselves.
This leads to complaining...we do not complain, we compete always.
We shake hands and thank our competition for making us better, every chance we get.
Sometimes that competition is your teammate in practice, sometimes it's another team in a game.
COMPETE comes from the root word COMPETERE... which means to strive together
Our competition sharpens us and we sharpen them!
Communication - We want our players talking on defense and on offense...Talking can be body language, can be vocal.
On the bench we want them talking about the game...what are the other team's tendencies, what is our strategy.
At half time, coaches will separate themselves from the team to chat what we are seeing and adjustments to make, we expect the girls to be talking the same thing. We found by the end of the season, the girls were identifying pretty much the same things we were.
We are kind and honest with each other on and off the court.
Hustle Effort - We may not always make the best decision as we play, BUT high effort will always be expected.
Our players will never be yelled at for making a mistake...we much rather our players play without fear of mistakes. We definitely will coach a player up, but VERY rarely while they are playing.
If we are up 100-0, we still hustle - We still show respect to the other team by hustling.
If we are down 100-0, we still hustle - We show respect to ourselves and our teammates by hustling.
There is no HUSTLE without "US"...we Hustle for each other.
We seek out GRATITUDE - what we look for, often, we find. Coaches and parents, we seek out the good.
The ref is missing a lot of calls? Good, now we can learn to play through unfair situations.
We missed the roll on the screen and roll? Good now we know it's there...and we can get it next time.
etc...we find the GOOD.
